CONNIE GRITTON CROWNED MAY QUEEN AT 2007 MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS
The damp weather on the May Day Bank Holiday did nothing to dampen the spirits of the young people of Haversham who celebrated May Day in the traditional way. The afternoon started with a procession around the village on board a trailer for the May Queen, her princesses and flower girls, two soldiers for protection, the town crier to herald the advance of the procession and, of course, the Maypole dancers. A collection for charity - this year Helen House Hospice for children - was made by the older children accompanying the trailer on foot, raising an amazing £180 thanks to the generosity of local people.

Back at the Social Centre, the Queen was officially crowned by last year's Queen and the afternoon's activities got under way with flawless Maypole Dancing by 16 children aged 7 to 12 years. this was followed by lots of traditional games for children and parents - a great afternoon of fun, despite having to held indoors due to the inclement weather.
